Reaction to Vincristine

Drew is still in the hospital. Tony just relieved me, so I could get some rest. Drew and I had a rough night. He didn't sleep much and I got 1 1/2 hours. He is still not drinking or eating and appears to be in pain. We spoke with the Oncologist today and he checked Drew over. The ears look clear today, so that was a good sign. Dr. Neglia feels Drew is reacting to one of the drugs called Vincristine. This drug can cause neurological pain. It sends sharp shooting pains throughout the body. It should clear up in the next three days. Until he eats and drinks he will remain in the hospital.

Thank you to everyone for all your love and support. You cannot begin to imagine what this means to us. There are many days when we feel like falling apart, then we read the blog. It gives us hope and faith, that so many people are praying and supporting us through this difficult journey.

So many people have done so much for us over the last couple of weeks:
  • Friends have been spending meals, praying, offering up help with Jack and listening to us. THANK YOU - We appreciate and value your friendship immensely.
  • Tony's work has been so understanding and so flexible with his schedule. He has the best co-workers in the world who have offered to help pick up the slack and cover for him, so he can be with Drew. His manager has been so understanding and supportive throughout the entire process. THANK YOU - EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU.
  • My work - What can I say about the most wonderful company to be employed. Thrivent Financial has been so supportive throughout this process. They truly do care about their employees. My co-workers has sent meal, offered prays and support and been so flexible with my schedule. In addition, co-workers have donated their PTO to me, so I would not have to go unpaid during this difficult time. What an amazing group of people. They are willing to give up time with their family's, so I can be with mine. My manager has been so understanding. He is being so flexible with the time I take off to be at the hospital. THANK YOU ALL OF YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
  • Our Daycare - Paula is the most amazing person in the whole word. She is like a second Mom to my children. Without her, we could not get through this. She has been so supportive - offering to help with Jack whenever needed. She has really been helping him get through this with extra love and support. THANK YOU - YOU MEAN THE WORLD TO US.
  • Our Families - Thank you so much for all the baby-sitting, meals, love, support and prayers. They always say you can't pick your family, but if I could I wouldn't trade any of them. WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH.
  • Jack - What an amazing little boy. He brings laughter, when we are sad. Yesterday he asked me as he was shaking his finger "Mommy, I'll give you one chance. Tell me the truth - Did you stay at the hospital with Drew last night?" How could I not laugh. I love you to the moon and back Jack.
  • Drew - What a precious little boy. That goofy smile and giggle is unforgettable. He has every nurse in love with him at the hospital. He is so resilient and strong. I love you peanut. WE WILL GET YOU BETTER.
  • Tony - What an amazing husband and father. I love him so much. He is definitely my better half. He is so strong and amazingly calm throughout this, always taking care of me. I thank God for him each and every day. I am blessed to have him in my life.

Drew will get better, he will be healthly and happy soon. Keeping praying and sending your love to him. Positive energy can work miracles.

Tony and Heidi, We hope the pain quickly subsides for Drew and he is home with you for a lit bit of "normal time." I am sure you have never appreciated one another more- thank God you can be strong for each other. You are in our prayers and we will keep checking the blog for updates. We dropped a few things off at your house and the stocking is for Jack from Kipper. We will have Jack over any time you need some sleep.
