First Round of Chemo Done

Drew had his first round of chemo this weekend. It went as well as can be expected. If you would ask him he would say "I knock the cancer off my head!" It is so incredibly cute.

He came home late on Saturday, to a big surprise. Mommy and Daddy have put a playground in the backyard. Thanks to Papa G, Uncle Tom, Uncle Joe and Daddy, who worked hard in the rain on Saturday, he will have a park to play at in his backyard.

Drew had an ok day on Sunday. He hit a wall at 12:00, and only wanted to be held after that. He didn't want to play or watch tv. He is very nauseous and in pain from chemo/port placement. One of the drugs Drew gets causes bone pain, therefore, he is having difficulty standing and drinking (from jaw pain). He is on very strong pain medication, which seems to help some.

About the only thing that cheers him up is Big Brother Jack. He loves to have Jack around. In the morning when he has energy, he chases Jack around. It is good to see him have some fun, in all this misery.

Jack had a rough weekend. On Friday night, he cried himself to sleep because he missed his brother. He just kept saying I want my brother and Daddy back. I felt really bad for him. On Saturday, he told me that we loved Drew more because we were always with Drew and not him. It is hard to explain to a 4 year old that sometimes one child needs you more. We have been trying to reassure him, we love him to pieces. I took him to his favorite park on Sunday, for some alone time. This really seemed to perk him up. Please keep him in your prayers.

The next round of chemo is scheduled for June 13th. We will update the blog with any changes in his condition over the next month.

Tony, Heidi, Jack & Drew....First of all thank you so much for keeping up the Blog - it is wonderful to be able to keep up with Drew's progress w/o bothering you during this very difficult time. Just a note to let you know we are thinking of you all the time and praying each day for a healthy recovery for Drew and that your entire family stay healthy. We love you guys and are looking forward to hopefully seeing you up North (if we ever have summer?). Take care, Bob & Barb Lechner
