All counts are good except platelets
Drew was pretty cranky and tired today. He basically was up for an hour and then slept for an hour all day long. We're hoping he gets a good nights rest, as his body really needs it. All of Drew's counts are in the normal range except his platelets. Platelets are the cells that help your body stop bleeding by forming clots. A normal child platelet count is between 150,000 and 300,000 cells. Drew's platelet count today came in at 11,000. In order to combat this risk the doctors decided to give Drew a platelet transfusion. A platelet transfusion is very similar process to the blood transfusion. It took about an hour and thankfully no reaction this time. This should give Drew's platelet numbers a boost so he's ready for the next round of Chemo on the 22nd. Drew's rash subsided today and is gone on his stomach and back. He still has a little of the rash on his hands and feet. Drew will remain in isolation until his cultures come back (hopefully in the next 24-48 hours) or he is completely back to his normal self. Even though today was harder then normal, Drew was an admirably strong little boy. Tomorrow's another day and one day closer to being home again.
